DuPont™ Personal Protection announced the Ironclad Heatworx® Heavy Duty Glove as a winner of the sixth annual DuPont™ Kevlar® Glove Innovation Awards during a special reception at the NSC Congress & Expo in San Diego last week. The awards showcased excellence in innovative glove and sleeve designs from licensees that use DuPont™ Kevlar® aramid fiber and continue to redefine the standards for performance and comfort in personal protective equipment (PPE).

The Heatworx® Heavy Duty HW6X creates a new market standard for heat gloves that are both high-dexterity and high-heat resistant. A glove designed to grab and hold items up to 600 degrees of heat while being highly dexterous and comfortable for wearers, it features silicone-laminated Kevlar® finger sidewalls, and a full Kevlar® shell with molded silicone palm for extra heat protection and improved cut resistance.

DuPont™ Kevlar® aramid fiber is used to make a variety of clothing, accessories, and equipment safe and cut resistant. It’s lightweight, durable and extraordinarily strong. Winning entries were chosen based on submissions that utilized Kevlar® fiber in the glove or sleeve construction, were unique and unconventional in their approach and challenged the norms of traditional hand protection.

As the industrial workplace continues to evolve, hand protection needs to improve alongside it. Research from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows 20 percent of disabling workplace injuries involve hands, while 70 percent of hand injuries result from not wearing any type of hand protection and 30 percent of hand injuries are caused by wearing the wrong glove.

Ironclad General Manager, Eric Jaeger, says “High-heat gloves are usually based on an oven mitt chassis. We wanted to build a heavy-duty glove with high-dexterity where all the fingers can be used to actually grab, hold and manipulate hot objects. Ironclad has been in partnership with Dupont™ almost since the day the company began. We have a dozen gloves with Kevlar® on the market now, and we’re definitely looking forward to future collaborations between Ironclad and Dupont™.”

Ironclad gloves are available through industrial suppliers, hardware stores, home centers, lumber yards, automotive stores and sporting goods retailers nationwide; and through authorized distributors in North America, Europe, Australia and Asia.
